This oral history interview, conducted with Dr. E. Harvey Estes Jr., was part of an oral history project conducted by the Physician Assistant (PA) History Education Division within the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Duke University in May of 1990. These interviews were not conducted using traditional oral history methods. All participants/interviewees were mailed a set of questions that were specifically tailored to their roles and experiences in relation to the early history of the PA program at Duke. Participants/interviewees then recorded their responses on cassette tape. The goal of the project was to capture the personal experiences of 14 early leaders, educators, and graduates of the PA program. The initial project was conducted for the 25th anniversary celebration of Duke's PA program.
