William P. Wilson was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1922. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Duke University in 1943 and his M.D. from Duke in 1947. He interned at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, after which he did his residency in psychiatry at Duke University. Dr. Wilson worked at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1958, but he spent the majority of his medical career at Duke. He was made an Assistant Professor in 1955 and became the Head of the Division of Biological Psychiatry in 1961. In 1964 he was appointed Professor of Psychiatry until his retirement in 1984. He directed the electroencephalographic laboratories from 1961 to 1981. Dr. Wislon closed his psychiatric practice in 2007. In 2010, Dr. Wilson was Distinguished Professor of Pastoral Counseling at Carolina Evangelical Divinity School in High Point, North Carolina and was the Director of the Institute of Christian Growth. Dr. Wilson has authored over 165 scientific articles and co-authored the book, "The Grace to Grow." Dr. Wilson also spent much time overseas in missionary activities in third world nations. He often speaks and writes on the relationship of Christianity, psychiatry and psychology.
