Contains correspondence, conference materials, committee materials, professional association materials, short writings, and applications pertaining to the career of Florence K. Wilson, dean of the Duke University School of Nursing from 1946 to 1954. Materials range in date from 1933 to 1967.

Biographical / historical:

Florence Kissick Wilson was born in 1889 to Arminta (nee Kissick) and Reverend William Wilson. She received her AB degree from the University of Michigan before attending the Vassar Training Camp for Nurses and the City Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. In 1930, she received an MA from Western Reserve University. In 1946, Wilson became the third dean of the Duke University School of Nursing, a position she held until 1954.
Prior to working at Duke, Wilson served as a medical supervisor and instructor at Lakeside Hospital at Western Reserve University and at the School of Nursing at the University of Nebraska. From 1938 to 1943, Wilson was the director of the School of Nursing and Nursing Service [LW1] [m2] at Syracuse Memorial Hospital and later became an associate professor of nursing education.
Wilson died in 1960.
