Doyle Graham was a professor of pathology and dean of medical education at Duke, chair of the Pathology Department at Vanderbilt University, and chair of the toxicology study section of the National Institutes of Health.

Contains audiotapes and transcript of an oral history interview with Dr. Doyle Graham. Dr. Graham discusses his experiences as a scientist and educator in the field of pathology.

Biographical / historical:

Dr. Doyle Graham grew up in West Texas. He attended New Mexico Highlands University and Texas A M for an undergraduate degree, and he received his medical degree from Duke University in 1966. From 1966 to 1971, Graham attended Duke Graduate School and received his PhD in 1971. Dr. Graham began his career as a professor in the Pathology Department at Duke in 1970. He became dean of medical education at Duke in 1987, a position in which he served until 1995. In 1995, Dr. Graham was appointed the chair of the Pathology Department at Vanderbilt University, from which he retired in 2001. Dr. Graham was chairman of the toxicology study section of the NIH from 1987 to 1988. In 1988 he received a second Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) grant from the National Institutes of Health. He served as a member of the National Advisory Environmental Health Sciences Council of the NIH from 1993 to 1997. In 1997 he was given a distinguished alumnus award from the Duke Medical Alumni Association.
