Biographical / historical:

The Office of Curricular Affairs supports all faculty and students in educational program delivery. The department ensures education quality and innovation, alignment of educational goals and outcomes, assessment of student performance, and analysis of course and program evaluations. The office also conducts educational research for the continued improvement of the curriculum and trains faculty in innovations in educational methodology and assessment.

The department has undergone multiple name changes throughout its history. In 1976, it was called the Central Teaching Facility. In the 1980s, the name changed to the Thomas D. Kinney Central Teaching Laboratory, in honor of Dr. Kinney, a Duke pathologist, although it was commonly shortened to the Central Teaching Laboratory. During the late 1990s, the department became the Office of Curriculum until the 2012-2013 academic year, when the name again changed to the Office of Curriculum Affairs.
