Biographical / historical:

The Duke Chapter of the National Student Nurses' Association was formed at the Duke University School of Nursing in 2016. The organization assumes responsibility for contributing to nursing education in order to provide for the highest quality of health care; provides programs representative of fundamental interests and concerns to nursing students; and aids in the development of the whole person, his/her professional role, and his/her responsibility for health care of people in all walks of life.

The functions of the Duke Chapter of the NSNA include providing direct input into standards of nursing education and influencing the education process; influencing health care, nursing education, and practice through legislative activities as appropriate; and representing nursing students to the consumer, to institutions, and other organizations.

The group also promotes and encourages student participation in community affairs and interdisciplinary activities involving health care and the resolution of related social issues; recruitment efforts and participation in student activities and educational opportunities regardless of a person's race, color, creed, sex, lifestyle, national origin, age, or economic status; and collaborative relationships with nursing and health-related organizations.
