Stead Jr. alumni lists; a biography of Frederic Moir Hanes; lists of chief residents of Duke Hospital, VA Medical Center, and Ambulatory Care; a list of the numbers of house staff; student, house staff, and faculty files; and staff and faculty group photographs. Major subjects include the Department of Medicine. Materials date from 1930 to 2017.

Materials date from 1930 to 2017.

Biographical / historical:

The Department of Medicine was established in 1930, coinciding with the opening of Duke Hospital. There are twelve specialized divisions within the department: Cardiology; Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition; Gastroenterology; General Internal Medicine; Geriatrics; Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapy; Hematology; Infectious Diseases; Medical Oncology; Nephrology; Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine; and Rheumatology and Immunology.

Restrictions:

Contains Medical Center Administrative records. These include records of the officers of the University, as defined in the Bylaws, the deans of schools and colleges, and departments, institutes, and other offices as designated by the President. For a period of twenty-five years from the origin of the material, permission in writing from the director of the office of record and the Medical Center Archivist is required for use. After twenty-five years, records that have been processed may be consulted with the permission of the Medical Center Archivist. (Issued by the Office of the Chancellor, December 1, 1975).
Photographic materials and previously published directory materials in this collection are not restricted.
Reprints may be used on-site only.
Materials in the Student, House Staff, and Faculty Files Series and Residency Training Program Records Series must be screened for sensitive or confidential materials before being accessed. For further information consult with the Medical Center Archivist.
