Biographical / historical:

Wallace Evans Jarboe was born July 17, 1920, in Breckinridge, Kentucky, to George Jarboe and Amanda Florence (nee Butler) Jarboe. Jarboe served in the U.S. Army Medical Department from 1938 to 1949. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant, Medical Administrative Corps (MAC) upon completion of Officer Candidate School in 1941. During WWII he was commissioned in the Regular Army, and in 1949 transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he had three tours in Washington, D.C. He retired from USAF in 1970 as chief of AF Medical Facility Planning and Construction in the USAF Surgeon General's Office.
Jarboe began his career at Duke University as director of Hospital Planning Studies in 1971. In 1974 he became the director of the Hospital Project Management Office. In 1976 he was named director of the Office of Logistics and Management for Duke North. Jarboe was the executive director of the City of Medicine program from 1981 to 1987.
Jarboe was elected president of the USAF Medical Service Corps Association in 1991. He received various awards throughout his career including the Bronze Star for service in Italy; The Legion of Merit Award upon retirement from the USAF; and Faculty Emeritus at Duke University Medical Center, one of the first hospital administrators to receive that honor.
Jarboe married Betty Jo Sertzer. They had one child. After his wife's death in 1987, Jarboe married Ava Hart. Jarboe died on April 18, 2009.
