Biographical / historical:

Frank Libman Engel was born in 1913 in New York City, New York, to Adolph Engel and Esther Libman. He received a BA from Dartmouth College in 1934 and his MD from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1938. Engel taught at Emory University School of Medicine from 1945 to 1947. He worked at Duke University from 1947 to 1963 as an Associate Professor of Physiology and Professor of Medicine. From 1960 to 1963, he was the chair of the Division of Endocrinology at Duke.
Engel's research focused on endocrinology and metabolic diseases.
He was a member of the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the American College of Physicians, and the American Physiological society.
He married Mildred F. Goldfaden and they had one daughter. Engel died in 1963.
