Pastoral services are available at all Duke Health hospitals any time of day or night. The department provides support, guidance, and someone to listen when you or a loved one is in need because of sudden health challenges or end-of-life decisions, seeking guidance on ethical decision-making, or a place to focus on prayer and meditation. The Department of Chaplain Services and Education provides services to all faiths.
The chaplaincy program at Duke Hospital was started by P. Wesley Aitken shortly after Aikten's graduation from Duke Divinity School in 1956. See below for a list of the department's directors.
