Frederick Vernon Altvater was born in Central City, Colorado, in 1907 to Fritz and Mary Altvater. He received an AB degree in 1930 and a MA degree in 1932 in economics from Duke University. In 1933, he became superintendent of Duke Hospital. Following a move to Denver, Colorado, in 1946, he served as a consultant to the Dean of the Duke School of Medicine.
He married Margaret Ann Glass in 1929 and they had three daughters. Altvater died in 1971. - Acquisition information:
