Contains printed materials and clinical notes from Biddle's time at Duke and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Materials date from 1924 to 1941.

Bulk of the series includes accounts and correspondence related to the operation of Duke Pathological Service, Duke University School of Medicine's laboratory and pathological examinations for smaller hospitals and private physicians to aid in the diagnosis or treatment of illness or injury, or in the case of autopsy, to obtain cause of death. Account books and correspondence reveal difficulties in getting compensation for pathological services and other information about small, regional hospitals, especially in North Carolina. Materials date from 1924 to 1960.

Contains clinical, personal, and academic correspondence between Davison, colleagues, and professional organizations. Also contains materials pertaining to Duke University School of Medicine funding, curriculum development, and recruiting. Materials date from 1924 to 1972.

Series is divided into two subseries: Personal and Professional Correspondence. The organizational scheme was born out of the original ordering of the collection and because of time constraints and the seemingly logical arrangement, the material was left divided as it was found. An effort was made to list any significant content in all files on the folder tab. Some records were removed to the Restricted Files series and labeled with a similar file name. Attempts were made to note the removal on the outside of the Correspondence folder. Materials date from 1924 to 1978.

Contains diaries filled with Baker's handwritten notes and recollections pertaining to his personal and professional activities. Materials date from 1924 to 1990.

Contains lab notebooks pertaining to Baker's pathology and neuropathology research. Materials date from 1925 to 1926.

Series is organized by autopsy number with significant gaps. Instances where a single autopsy case number has records with correspondence, reports, and statistics are rare. The statistics files are incomplete; however, they are informative. The gaps in this series should not obscure the importance of autopsy. Evidence exists throughout the collection to suggest that the Pathology department was centered around autopsy. Autopsy was the basis for determining not just the disease processes but, also, the life history of the sick individual and was therefore the chief means of educating residents and integral to the teaching of year two medical students. Diagnosis for patients throughout the healthcare system ran through the pathology lab and understood through the reports it generated. Additionally, research was "stimulated by observations at autopsy." Surgical pathological cases were relegated to the Restricted Series when necessary under HIPAA guidelines. Graphic images and content are noted on folder tabs when possible. Practices relating to Segregation are evident. Materials date from 1925 to 1959.

Contains writings and reprints pertaining to the naming of the wards in Duke Hospital, planting of Osler ivy, graduation of the first class of the School of Medicine, a hearing on general statutes where Davison put forth a new definition of osteopathy, and remarks concerning his mentor John Howland. Materials date from 1926 to 1943.

Contains news releases, invitations, clippings, and ephemera, which includes certificates, academic records, financial materials, a tourist visa, a passport, a driver's license, programs, nametags, and postcards, pertaining to Brown's personal and professional life. Also includes items related to the formation of the American College of Hospital Administrators (ACHA)'s Ray E. Brown Management Collection. Materials date from 1926 to 1974.

Contains a program for a dinner honoring Blalock and an audiocassette tape. Materials date to 1960.

Series is organized by author, Wiley D. Forbus, and year with the topic as part of the folder name. The location the lecture was delivered is also included when possible. The materials for the publication "Medicine in North Carolina" (MNC) are segregated at the end of the series by publication name, i.e., "MNC", because it is a collection of essays and did not easily fit into the organizational scheme. Materials include drafts, reprints, notes, correspondence, transcripts, and photos. Graphic photos are noted on folder tab. Materials date from 1926 to 1976.

This series contains academic writings by Behnke and other scholars. The series is divided into subseries for manuscripts, publications, bibliographies, clippings, and reprints. Each subseries is arranged alphabetically and materials date from 1926 to 1988.

This series contains professional correspondence with other researchers and organizations, such as the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the Coastal School of Deep Sea Diving, from 1935 to 1990. Correspondence is arranged both alphabetically and chronologically. Materials date from 1935 to 1990.

Contains Baker's journals and diaries documenting his personal and professional activities from medical school until shortly before his death. Materials date from 1926 to 1993.

Comprised of Alexander's saved records of his own department and the neurosurgical service. Contains travel documents and orders from WWII, research and investigative reports related neurosurgery, reports and correspondence related to Nazi medical experiments, patient records, correspondence, trial records and transcripts, test results, and photographs. Of special significance is material dealing with Alexander's later work as an investigator and consultant to prosecutors during the Nuremberg tribunal's medical war crimes trials of Nazis from 1946 to 1947. Significant portions of records are in German. Materials date from 1926 to 1998.
