Abstract Or Scope
The Division of Allied Health Education of the Duke University School of Medicine was formed to represent the interests of health-related educational programs, including the Pathology Assistant, Physician's Associate, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Nurse Anesthesiology, and Radiologic Technology programs. Deans of Medical and Allied Health Education included Thomas D. Kinney and Ewald W. Busse. Types of materials include reports, correspondence, bulletins, budgets, meeting minutes, grant materials, reports, programs, agendas, pamphlets, newsletters, curriculum vitae, photographs, and evaluations Materials range in date from 1966 to 1983.

Facilities Planning and Development Collection, 1952-2013

Abstract Or Scope
The collection documents facilities planning and construction activities of the Duke University Medical Center. These materials also show the evolution of responsibility for health facilities planning and administration during a period of extensive building activity that occurred before the organization of the Facilities Planning, Design and Construction Office within the Medical Center and Health System Architect's Office. Included are records of major planning initiatives and specific building projects from the offices of Louis E. Swanson, an early director of the Medical Center Planning Office, and Dr. Jane G. Elchlepp, the first assistant dean for planning. In addition to correspondence, memoranda, committee minutes, statistical reports, and planning reference materials, the collection contains design studies and long-range planning proposals completed between 1952 and 1998. Presentation drawings and graphics span the years 1964 to 2000. The collection also contains photographs, slides, and other documentation pertaining to the planning and construction of Duke Hospital North from 1973 to 1980. Materials date from 1952 to 2013.

Contains the professional and personal papers of Roger Denio Baker (1902-1994), an original faculty member at the Duke University School of Medicine and professor of pathology. Types of materials include journals, diaries, day planners, manuscripts, drafts, reprints, correspondence, photographs, notes, bound volumes, lab notebooks, brochures, clippings, certificates, correspondence, newsletters, sketches, and programs pertaining to Baker's education, teaching, and research. Gerhard Chester Henricksen Papers, 1942-1955

Gerhard Chester Henricksen (1907-1994), Duke University's assistant university treasurer during the 1940s, was responsible for coordinating funding and budget activities of Duke University Hospital. He was also an original member of the Accountants' 52 Club, which was organized for the national exchange of ideas, procedures, and techniques among the organization's hospital financial officers. Collection contains Henricksen's professional papers. It includes materials from the Accountants' 52 Club, the American Hospital Association, and the Southern Institute for Hospital Administrators, as well as Henricksen's own writings. Types of materials include brochures, conference proceedings, correspondence, reports, memoranda, printed materials, budgets, bulletins, and short writings. Materials range in date from 1947 to 1955.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established in 1930 as one of the founding departments at Duke University Medical Center. This collection contains articles, clippings, order forms, lectures, survey results, slides, Roy T. Parker Symposium programs, correspondence, artifacts, plaques, printed materials, photographs, negatives, and delivery and procedure logs produced by Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty members from 1930 to 1995. Major contributors include F. Bayard Carter, E. C. Hamblen, and Robert A. Ross. Materials range in date from 1930 to 2018.

Duke Clinical Research Institute Records, 1983-2018

The Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) was created in 1996 from the Duke Databank for Cardiovascular Disease (DDCD). Dr. Robert M. Califf was named as the first DCRI director. The DCRI designs and conducts small and large multinational clinical trials. Contains correspondence, reports, newsletters, meeting agendas, research applications, clinical trial research reports, articles, presentations, meeting minutes, financial materials, pamphlets, brochures, audiovisual materials, and photographs. Materials range in date from 1983 to 2018.

Department of Physical Therapy Records, 1942-2006

Abstract Or Scope
The Department of Physical Therapy at Duke University was established by Helen Kaiser in 1943. In 1970, the program began awarding a Master of Science degree. In 2000, the department transferred from offering a master's degree to offering a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The collection contains photographs, faculty-student picnic invitations, anniversary buttons, and graduation programs. The photographs include images of students, facilities, and faculty, including Helen Kaiser. The buttons are from the 50th (1993) and 60th (2003) anniversaries of the program. Materials range in date from 1942 to 2006.

William G. Anlyan Oral History Interviews, 1978-2007

Abstract Or Scope
William George Anlyan (1925-2016) came to Duke University School of Medicine for his residency in general and thoracic surgery (1949-1955). Afterwards, he joined the surgical staff led by Dr. Deryl Hart, becoming a full professor of surgery in 1961, and, from 1964 to 1969, was the third dean of the School of Medicine. Anlyan also served as vice president for health affairs (1969-1983) and chancellor for health affairs (1983-1989). From 1988 to 1993, Anlyan was the executive vice president and cencellor for health affairs before becoming chancellor of Duke University (1990-1995). This collection contains 9 oral history interviews conducted in 1978, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2004, and 2007. Interviews in the 1990s were conducted by Dr. James Gifford. Interviews conducted in the 2000s were conducted by Jessica Roseberry.

Dr. Samuel L. Katz is the Wilburt Cornell Davison Professor and Chairman Emeritus of Pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center. This collections contains 2 oral history interviews conducted at separate times. Interviews were conducted on May 10, 2007 by Jessica Roseberry and October 23, 2009 by Jake Sganga and Breann Tisano. In the 2007 interview, Katz discusses his career at Duke; his work pertaining to vaccines; and women in the field of pediatrics, including specific women in Duke's Department of Pediatrics under his tenure. In the 2009 interview, Katz discusses his medical career, his early involvement with creating the measles vaccine that structured his career around pediatric vaccinations, and his advocacy for vaccine public policy.
