    Hans Lowenbach Papers, 1937-1951

    Hans Lowenbach (1905-1983) joined the Duke Medical faculty in 1940, serving as a professor of neurology (1940-1963) and chair of the Department of Psychiatry (1951-1953). From 1949 to 1951, Lowenbach served in the U.S. Army at the 98th General hospital in Munich. He was later the commanding officer of the 3274th U.S. Army hospital reserve and retired in 1965 with the rank of Colonel.     65th General Hospital Collection, 1917-2002

        Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development Records, 1952-2019

        The Duke University Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development was created in 1955 by the U.S. Surgeon General and was designated as one of five regional resource centers on aging. The center's first initiatives included the Duke Longitudinal Studies, a 20-year project begun in 1956 that monitored the physical, mental, social, and economic status of approximately 800 older adults. Types of materials include correspondence, audiovisual materials, reprints, departmental histories, budget materials, computer printouts, brochures, newsletters, clippings, directories, grant materials, questionnaires, printed materials, architectural plans, and internal administrative papers such as meeting minutes, reports, publications, and photographs.         Edward Lanphier Collection, 1876-1999

        Edward Lanphier (1922-1999) was a physician and senior scientist in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. Lanphier wrote and spoke extensively on a variety of diving subjects, including decompression in surface-based diving, comfort in underwater exercise, animal and human respiration under increased pressures, and hyperbaric treatments. During his career, Lanphier was a member of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. The collection contains his professional papers.
