These records document planning activities and building projects undertaken during Louis E. Swanson's tenure as chairman of the Medical Center Building Committee beginning in 1952; as assistant administrative director of medical center (with overall charge of the building program) from 1964 to 1967, and as the first director of the Medical Center Planning Office from 1967 to 1976. The records consists of correspondence, memoranda, committee minutes and reports, and planning documents in the form of long range planning summaries, multi-volume development proposals commissioned from prominent architectural and management consulting firms, photographs, building and site plans, diagrams, and blueprints generated between 1952 and 1976. Materials date from 1952 to 1977.

This series contains records pertaining to the Neurosurgical Society of America, which Morris and sixteen others founded in 1948. Included in the series include are correspondence, conference programs, organizational constitutions and bylaws, proposals, meeting minutes, newsletters, and abstracts. Other subjects include Hill's involvement with the "Journal of Biological Chemistry," "Trends in Biological Sciences," and the "American Association for the Advancement of Science." The series also contains papers concerning Duke's relations with the Federation of American Scientists, along with Hill's dealings with the National Science Foundation and the National Academy of Sciences. The papers mainly consist of correspondence (both from and to Robert Hill, as well as those cc'd to him from other organizational members), memorandums, minutes, and reports.
