Contains correspondence, subject files, grant notebooks, and alumni files, primarily pertaining to Carter's work as the program Administrator of the Physician Assistant program at Duke University Medical Center. Also contains materials on the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Association of Physician Assistant Programs, the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants, and the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants. Major subjects include funding, budgets, grants, conceptualization and development of the profession, PA program development, students, PA conferences, alumni, curriculum, faculty, personnel policies, legislation and legal issues, PA employment and utilization. Interview tapes and transcripts have been transferred to the Oral History Collection. Audiotapes have been separated and placed at the end of the collection. Materials date from 1967 to 2020.
