Shirley K. Osterhout worked as a consultant to the Gastrointestinal Drugs Advisory Committee of the Bureau of Drugs of the Food and Drug Administration. The Committee was charged with reviewing the safety and effectiveness of prescription drugs. Osterhout served as a liaison between the consumer and medical community, representing the consumer's concerns in matters of gastrointestinal diseases.
