Duke University Medical Center's Transfusion Committee is responsible for ensuring the following of best practices and patient safety during blood utilization and transfusions. They play a key role in managing hospital use of blood supply, implementing blood management initiatives, and for monitoring the strategic, operational and reporting lines for transfusion safety. The Department of Anesthesiology in particular has played a key role in the operations of this Transfusion Committee. Projects include initiatives to decrease perioperative transfusion rates.
