Contains the professional and personal papers of Francis Huntington Swett and Mary Elizabeth Swett. Biographical / historical:

Francis Huntington Swett was born in 1893 to Eugene Newhall Swett and Caroline Huntington Swett in Maine. He received an AB degree from Bates College in 1916, an MA from Brown University in 1917, and a PhD from Yale University in 1922. During World War I, Swett served in the Navy. From 1922 to 1925, he worked as an Instructor and Associate in Anatomy at Johns Hopkins University. In 1925, he became an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University. From 1930 until his death in 1943, Swett served as a Professor of Anatomy and the first chair of the Department of Anatomy at Duke University School of Medicine.
Swett married Mary Elizabeth Glenn in 1924.Upon his death in 1943, Elizabeth Swett, born in 1895 to Alexander Glenn and Agnes Pillsbury, began working in the School of Medicine's admissions office, where she worked until her death in 1955.
