Biographical / historical:

Gary L. Stiles received his BS degree in chemistry from St. Lawrence University and his MD from Vanderbilt University. He became a cardiologist at Duke in 1981. During his tenure at Duke, he was appointed Chief of the Division of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiology Fellows Training Program, Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, and Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Cardiology. In 1996, Stiles became the Medical Director for the Duke University Health System Network. In 1999, he was appointed as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Duke University Health System.
Stiles left Duke in 2004 to become the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. He became the Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Purdue Pharma L.P. in 2010.
