Martin Marc Cummings graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1944. He was the director of the National Library of Medicine from 1964 to 1984.

Contains audiotapes and transcript of an oral history interview with Martin Cummings. Contains audiotapes and transcript of an oral history interview with Martin Marc Cummings, a 1944 graduate of Duke University School of Medicine and former director of the National Library of Medicine.

Biographical / historical:

Martin Marc Cummings was born in Berlin, N.J. He attended Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, and then attended Duke University School of Medicine, graduating in 1944. One year of his medical school training was spent at Yale. In 1946, he was commissioned by the Public Health Service and continued thereafter to work in government positions excepting a brief time at the University of Oklahoma. Cummings was the director of the National Library of Medicine from 1964 to 1984.
