Scope and content:

Contains records related to the general administrative and operational tasks of the North Carolina Licensed Practical Nurses Association (NCLPNA), forming the bulk of the Administrative Series. Major topics include job applications; fundraising; area chapters happenings, including extensive meeting minutes maintained by Faye Franklin, secretary of the Morganton Area Chapter; uniform and equipment vendors; Durham-area building maintenance companies; real estate transactions; revisions of NCLPNA bylaws and policies; ceremonial protocols, and a selection of correspondence related to specific activities and events, including letters pertaining to the Sammy K. Griffin Building Fund. (For the bulk of administrative correspondence arranged by year, see the Correspondence series.)

Types of materials include documents and correspondence, photocopies of newspaper clippings, contracts, mailing slips, order forms, postage meter register reading booklets, and photographs. When possible, names of individuals have been noted on the outside of the folder containing photographs. Materials are arranged alphabetically by administrative subject headings and chronologically. Some materials are oversized where indicated. Materials range in date from 1946 to 2007, and some are undated.

Notable business correspondence includes letters dated 1957 to 1959 between Hazel Taylor, NCLPNA Executive Secretary, and D. L. Gilbert Co., including a letter from Mr. Gilbert explaining the process of minting a pin; copies of letters dated 1979 addressed to the North Carolina Society of LPNs, Inc., alleging misuse of the NCLPNA mailing list; and notes from a 1979 telephone call detailing a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau in South Carolina against Wing Publications, Inc., by Cromer's Peanuts.

Photographs include portraits of identified NCLPNA members (Mavis Moss, Christine Jones, Yvonne Robertson, Elizabeth Jones, Ernestine Turner, David Cox, Brenda Thompson, Melzie Hartsell, Betty Self, Dell Kirk, Lucy [unknown surname], Beatrice Newell, [unknown first name] Billings, Eleanor Vanhooke, Doris Reid, Nancy Cook, Anna Kuba, and Sammy Griffin) and many unidentified members; photos from state conventions during unidentified years; and multiple other photos marked on the backsides for publication in "Cardinal Echo." Many images appear in the Spring, Summer, and Winter 1980 issues. Also includes 1 negative of NCLPNA member Betty Hunt, and a letter dated June 9, 1977, signed "Chris."

Additional photos can be found elsewhere in the collection. For photos of Edna Propst, Tina Morris, and other conference attendees, please see "President's Report" records in the Administrative Records series, subseries Executive Board.
