This collection contains the records of former Duke University COO and CEO Michael D. Israel. Materials range in date from 1991 to 2002.

Biographical / historical:

Michael D. Israel was born in Flushing, New York, in 1953. He received his AB degree from Rutgers College in 1975 and his MPH from Yale University in 1977. In 1993, Israel became the chief operating officer of Duke University Hospital. He was apponited as chief executive officer in 1996, and added the title of vice president and chief of hospitals and clinical facilities, Duke University Health System, in 1999. Israel left Duke in 2002 to become the chief operating officer of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in New York.

Records which have been existence for at least fifty years are available for scholarly research with the permission of the Medical Center Archivist. Access to records which have been in existence for less than fifty years shall be granted only by special permission, in writing, of the Medical Center Board of Trustees.
