Robert Martin Biddle was born March 28, 1913 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Harry Lee Biddle and Ida Mae Hoffmann. He attended Northwestern University from 1931 to 1933, before transferring to Duke University in 1935. He received a medical degree from Duke Medical School in 1939. Upon graduation, Biddle completed a year-long internship at the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, then a two-year residency in internal medicine at Duke Hospital.
Biddle served in the U.S. Army from May 3, 1943 to February 27, 1946 as a medical officer for the 101st Airborne Division. Following his military service, Biddle worked as an internal medicine physician in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He also served as medical director of Parkview Healthcare Center.
Biddle was president of the Parkersburg Academy of Medicine, president of the medical staff of St. Joseph's Hospital, and Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the West Virginia Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Association, and the Washington County Board of Health.
Biddle married Rebecca Brydon around 1941. Rebecca died in 1974. He married Margaret Ann Taylor Matheny on September 11, 1978 in Giles, Virginia. Biddle had six children and two step-children. Robert Martin Biddle died on September 19, 2000 in Washington County, Ohio. - Acquisition information:
