Ralph Arnold (1910-1960) was a professor of otology and an associate professor of otolaryngology and ophthalmology at the Duke University Medical Center in the 1940s and 1950s. He also served as part of the 65th General Hospital during World War II. The collection consists photographs, correspondence, records pertaining to the patent Arnold received for silicone treated cotton, medical records from Arnold's time in the army, and medical equipment, at least some of which was used for the 65th General Hospital. Lenox D. Baker graduated as part of Duke University School of Medicine's first graduating class in 1932. He came back to Duke in 1937 and became the chief of the Division of Orthopaedics, a position he held until 1967. He helped establish the North Carolina Cerebral Palsy Hospital and served as its medical director until 1972. Baker was also a founding member and later president of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association. This collection contains personal, professional, and administrative materials in connection with Baker. Dr. Ralph Randal (Randy) Bollinger, MD, a surgeon who spent his entire professional career at Duke, was appointed to the surgery faculty in 1980 and appointed Chief of Transplantation in 1983. He was instrumental in the development of liver and pancreas transplantation, participating in the first liver transplant at Duke, and pioneering the technical, immunological, and logistical complexities of these burgeoning operations. Dani Bolognesi received his PhD from Duke in virology in 1967, and he joined the faculty at Duke as an Assistant Professor in Virology in the Department of Surgery in 1971 and became an Associate Professor of Surgery in 1972. Bolognesi held other positions at Duke: Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery (1994-1999), Professor of Virology in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology (2001-2002), Professor of Virology in the Department of Microbiology (1994-2002), Professor of Surgery (1977-2002), and Professor Emeritus of Surgery (2002-present). While at Duke, his laboratory did the early work on identifying anti-HIV activity in what would become AZT, the first drug developed against the disease. Ivan W. Brown (1915-2009) graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1940 and is a former James B. Duke Professor of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. This collection consists of correspondence between Ivan W. Brown and Elmer L. DeGowin regarding Duke University Medical Center's Central Supply and Blood Bank, a retirement speech given by Clarence Ellsworth Gardner, and reprints of three of Ivan W. Brown's articles. One of these articles details the adventures of Wilburt C. Davison, Wilder G. Penfield, and Emile F. Holman. Materials range in date from 1949 to 1996.

This collection consists of information about Duke University Medical Center's Central Supply and Blood Bank, a retirement speech given by Clarence Ellsworth Gardner, and reprints of three of Ivan W. Brown's articles. The materials regarding the Central Supply and Blood Bank include correspondence between Brown and Elmer L. DeGowin, a member of the Department of Internal Medicine at University Hospitals at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. This correspondence, dated June to August 1949, includes photographs of the Duke's Central Supply and Blood Bank, as well as a print of the general floor plan of Central Supply. Materials range in date from 1949 to 1996.

Dr. John E. Dees, MD (1910-1993), a urologist, was a Professor of Urology at Duke, the second member of the Urology Faculty at Duke, and was known as a master surgeon and surgical innovator.
